New international standard for spices and condiments is published under the leadership of Iran
Sumac, as one of the five major spices is produced and offered in Iran, it has a good commercial market outside the country too, so the development of an international standard with the aim of facilitating export of this valuable product was proposed to the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) in 2019 by Iran and the development and leadership of an international standard for the characteristics of Sumac was assigned by ISO to INSO.
The international standard was developed and published by ISO/TC 34/SC 7 Spices, culinary herbs and condiments. The standard was unanimously adopted by 20 countries with P-membership in the committee, including India, Germany, France, China, Russia and Spain.
